October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer is very common and is the third leading cause of cancer deaths among
female in Hong Kong. It accounted for 27.2% of all new cancers in females diagnosed in Hong Kong in 2017, which means 1 in 4 female cancer patients are diagnosed with breast cancer, while about 1 in 15 women develop breast cancer in Hong Kong.
In fact, early detection can greatly improve the cure rate for breast cancer. 5 years survival rate of patients with breast cancer at early stage reach 97.5%, but the rate dropped to 19.3% for the ones at 4th stage. Besides, total treatment fees and the chance of undergoing entire breast removal surgery and chemotherapy will be greatly reduced with early detection.
Factors that are associated with an increased risk of breast cancer include:

- Nipple or breast skin that is red, dry, flaking or thickened
